She who causes the throat to breathe. Egytian scorpion goddess. Depicted in human form with a scorpion-shaped headdress, or with a scorpion body and a human head. Selket was associated with mortuary rites and helped guard the canopic jars in which the viscera of the dead were placed. From this association she came to be a tutelary goddess of the dead. She was called upon in Egyptian magic to avert venemous bites and stings. Made of cultured marble, hand gold leafed and detailed.
